Alexander Timoshenko was arrested on August 21 of 2000. On Friday, January 5 on the press-conference vice General Prosecutor of Ukraine Nikolay Obikhod declared that the proceedings were instituted against Yulia Timoshenko. The General Prosecutor's Office brought an action on two cases, joining them with the case of former Prime-Minister of Ukraine Pavel Lazarenko, in accordance with the article 80 of the Criminal Code (contraband), and article 172 (falsification of documents). Mr. Obikhod did not explain if Yulia Timoshenko would be arrested. According to the Parliamentary Fraction "Batkivshchina" Chairman Alexander Turchinov, the criminal groupings try to gain revenge in the fuel and energy complex for the reforms, carried out by Government and Yulia Timoshenko and which lead to the loss of shadow profits running into billion. On Tuesday, January 9, 2001, Mr. Turchinov reminded, the government will introduce the news program of the coal sphere reformation. The latter, according to him "is a very bribable sphere".
