The participant of the funeral procession

The participant of the funeral procession holds the soiled by blood and mud Ukrainian Flag in the center of Kyiv-based Sofievska Square (Tuesday, July 18, 1995). In the background - the soldiers of Internal Army, who have blocked the access to the grave of Patriarch. That day the soldiers of "Berkut" and Internal Army broke up people by means of gas and batons. The people gathered on the Sofievska Square, where in the temporary grave was buried the Patriarch of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (Kyiv Patriarch) Vladimir Romanyuk. The believers demanded to bury the Patriarch in the St. Sofia Cathedral, while the Kyiv City Authorities insisted on the burial on the Kyiv-based Baykovoe cemetery.
