Tuzla

A map fragment illustrates Ukrainian island Tuzla (500m wide, 7km long), centre, Ukrainian town Kerch, upper left corner, and Russian peninsula Tamansky, bottom right corner. Sept. 29, 2003 Russia started the building of isthmus between Ukrainian island Kosa Tuzla located in Kerchynsky channel and Tamansky peninsula (Russia). The building was initiated by local authorities of Krasnodarky region (Russia). Sept. 30 Ukrainian Foreign Affairs ministry sent an official note to Russian foreign policy department to explain the situation. Ukraine accents on the fact that the building is held at the Ukraine's frontier zone and has to be coordinated by both sides. Ukraine's parliament committee for foreign issues plans to apply to Security Council of UN, OBSE and NATO as the building of the dam is violation against Ukraine's territorial integrity. UNIAN photo
