Former Acting Defense Minister Valeriy Ivashchenko during the trial in Pechersk district court in Kiev, on Wednesday, July 13, 2011. This day Pechersk district court of Kiev refused to grant a petition of Ivashchenko lawyers to change him a measure of restraint from arrest to release on recognizance not to leave a town. At the same time, the Court ordered the Office of the State Department of Corrections in Kiev and Kiev region to conduct the required medical examination of Ivashchenko. On July 12 the lawyers of Ivashchenko, who is in a pre-trial detention center for almost 11 months, once again asked the court to release him from custody because of deterioration in health. Prosecutors objected to grant this petition. Ivashchenko and arbitration managers of state enterprise of the Ministru of Defense "Feodosiya Marine Engineering Plant" are accused of prevarication and aiding in the illegal alienation of the property during the rehabilitation works.
