Party of contraband cigarettes

A batch of contraband cigarettes detained by Volyn customs officers in “Domanovo” international automobile check-point, on Tuesday, April 28, 2009. Volyn customs officers detained a batch of contraband cigarettes valued at over 70 thousand hryvnias. A cache with the cigarettes was found out by customs officers together with border guards during the customs examination of “DAF” truck. A truck driver, Ukrainian citizen, went from Ukraine to Lithuania, he did not declare any cargo. However, during the customs examination the customs officers found out 8 900 bundles of “Bond” cigarettes, 2070 bundles of “LM” cigarettes and 5570 bundles of “West” tobacco production – total amount makes up 16.5 thousands bundles. The tobacco production was hidden in the cavity of bottom of truck and trailer. Customs officers drew up a report on violation of customs rules. The truck and a trailer, which were used for transfer of the contraband, were withdrawn. Because of increasing of tobacco excise duty the cases of cigarettes contraband also increased.
