Christine Lagarde, who until recently headed the Ministry of Finance of France, was elected the new director of the International Monetary fond. 55-year-old Christine Lagarde has become the first woman in history at the head of the IMF. She was the favorite for the post of Director of the IMF. Post became vacant following the resignation of Dominique Strauss-Kahn. The primary tasks for Lagarde will be resolvation of the crisis in the euro area and talks about the packages of financial aid to Greece and possibly to other countries in the so-called "periphery" of the eurozone.
In a statement of the IMF it was said that the five-year term of the post of Lagarde as IMF Director will begin on July 5.
