The icon "Chernobyl Savior"
A believer prays before the new icon "Chernobyl Savior" as Chernobyl disaster liquidators hold it during the consecration ceremony at Kiev's monastery of Caves on Thursday, Aug. 28, 2003. It was the first time in Orthodox iconography to show Jesus with common people - dead and alive Chernobyl victims. The alive people are shown as firefighters, nuclear power plant workers, warriors and nurses. The dead one are pictured in shrouds. Right from the Christ - the Blessed Virgin, left - archangel Mikhail. Chernobyl sarcophagus is seen on the background, front- the resurging ground. The icon would be placed in Uspensky cathedral.
