August 1, 2003 Goncharov who was blamed for organizing alleged "werewolf" gang with police officers involved, died at an emergency hospital and was cremated Aug. 3, 2003. Goncharov's lawyer claims that his death is "a result of violent actions". Aug. 5, 2003 the Public information Institute informed that they received a death letter from Goncharov telling about the case inquiry of policemen-"werewolfs" who were also checked for connection with the murder of Ukrainian journalist Georgy Gongadze. According to Goncharov's letter police officers threatened to kill him "presenting my death as a suicide or death from disease". Goncharov admitted that the threats "are related with my statements to the effect that I intend to tell at the court about the series of crimes initiated and executed by Ukraine's Internal Affairs Ministry workers, workers of Kiev's department for fighting organized crime" and its subdivision "Sokol". The threats are also related with my intention to disrobe the persons who initiated kidnapping and murder of Gongadze journalist. I'm not going give the evidence in presence of the journalists because I don't trust General Prosecutor's inquiry." The Public information Institute handed over the documents received from Goncharov to Ukraine's General Prosecutor Office that started their verification. Some 40 chiefs of internal affairs departments including 7 generals charged for -"werewolfs" case were convicted to severe disciplinary liability, Ukraine's Internal Affairs Ministry reports Sept. 5, 2002.
