Portrait of outstanding Ukrainian cardiosurgeon, academician Mykola Amosov is seen on his grave at the Kiev's Baykove cemetery on Saturday, Dec. 14, 2002. Amosov died on Thursday Dec. 12, 2002 at the age of 89. Mykola Amosov was the world's first to practice antithrombotic mitral valve prosthesis, worked out several new methods of heart disease treatment, models of artificial blood circulation devices, founded Republican cardiovascular surgery institute.
