A TU-22 M3 heavy bomber ”Backfire”
A TU-22 M3 heavy bomber "Backfire" is seen with its fuselage cut in two pieces at a military airfield in the city of Poltava some 343 kilometers (212 miels) east from Ukraine's capital Kiev on Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2002. In framework of a U.S.-funded disarmament program, Ukraine is expected to dismantle six Tupolev TU-22s by the end of this year and total of 31 aircraft in more than two years. Ukraine inherited the world's third-largest nuclear arsenal with the 1991 Soviet Union's collapse, including hundreds of missiles and dozens of strategic bombers.
