Elena Pritula
FILE -- Elena Pritula, chief editor of the Ukrainskaya Pravda (Ukrainian Truth) Internet edition, answers media questions at a news conference in Ukraine's capital Kiev Tuesday, September 10, 2002. Pritula sent an open letter to Ukraine's General Prosecutor's Office, Security Council and Interior Ministry saying that she was informed earlier on a real threat to her life. She reminded that an opposition journalist George Gongadze also sent a similar letter to General Prosecutor, and disappeared in two months. Pritula considers events that take place around her edition and her personally as an attempt to cause preconditions for provocation a few days before the protests planned for September 16. The protests are timed to mark the second anniversary of the disappearance of opposition journalist George Gongadze that caused months of protests against Ukraine's President Leonid Kuchma, whom opposition leaders accused of involvement in the killing.
