COMM UNIAN ARCHIVE Opposition adherents devil a wreath, which Ukrainian President Leonid Kuchma placed on the monument to Taras Shevchenko not long before, downtown Kyiv, Friday, March 9, 2001. This day Ukraine celebrated the 187th anniversary of Taras Shevchenko's birthday. In the course of the scheduled anti-presidential campaign protesters tried not to let Leonid Kuchma lay the flowers on the monument. The numerous anti-presidential actions, were caused by the case of missing journalist Georgyi Gongadze and continue till now. Center - people's deputy of Ukraine Taras Chornovil. According to UNA-UNSO Chairman Andrey Shkil, "suits were lodged against practically all the people's deputies, who today morning stayed at the monument to Taras Shevchenko".
