On August 26, the panel of judges on the criminal cases under the SCU headed by Vasily Malyarenko, the deputy chairman of the SCU took a decision1 "to leave without changes" the verdict of the Zhitomir-based regional Court of the 31st of March, 1999. By the aforesaid decision Onoprienko was sentenced to the highest measure of punishment - to death by shooting. The panel of judges requalitied the separate actions of Sergey Rogozin, the accessory of Onoprienko and reduced the measure of punishment from 13 to 12 years of imprisonment with confiscation of property.
