Yulia and Aleksandr Timoshenko

Batkivshchyna Party leader and former Prime Minister of Ukraine Yulia Timoshenko and her spouse Aleksandr Timoshenko in the courtroom of Kiev Pechersk district court, on Wednesday, August 10, 2011. On this day Pechersk District court of Kiev has begun a regular session on a criminal case against Timoshenko concerning the exceeding of authority and the abuse of office in the signing of gas contracts in 2009. Representatives of the embassies of Spain, the UK, Lithuania and the United States, as well as the EU Delegation in Ukraine watch the session. After the end of a break in the trial, the court has rejected a motion by the defence of the former Prime Minister Yulia Timoshenko for the disqualification of the prosecutors in the Russian gas supply contract case – Aleksandr Mikitenko and Liliya Frolova.
