Zmeiny island
COMM UNIAN ARCHIVE An aerial view of Zmeinyi island in the Black Sea situate 140 km to the West from Odessa. 17 perspective gas and oil fields are placed around the island of the square 0.168 square km. The island Zmeinyi belonged to Romania in the past. However, is moved to USSR and then to Ukraine after the Great Patriotic War. On Tuesday, May 16, 2006, Ukraine brought a counter memorandum to the International Court in Haage, Holland, in response to Romanian action of delimitation of the continental shelf and exclusive economic zones in the Black Sea. Ukraine supposes the island to be the state property. In the same time, Romania supposes the island as a rock without any right. Photo UNIAN
