Two homeless boys

Two homeless boys beg at the currency exchange kiosk in Kyiv on May 30, 2001 the day before the International Children Protection Day. This holiday is celebrated every year on June 1, in accordance with the decision of the International Democratic Women Federation, passed in November of 1949. According to the Women National-Democratic Association «Dia» (Action), today some 70 thousands of orphans live in Ukraine, 90% of the amount have alive parents. Some 17% of children (some 71 thousands a year or 190 children per day) are born out of wedlock. For today in Ukraine, in accordance with the Law «On state help to families with children», 3.9 million of citizens get 11 kinds of aid for 4.2 million of children (including 138 thousands of families having many children, 1 million 159.1 thousands of needy families) Photo by Petr Gonchar/ UNIAN
