Oleg Tishchenko and Yuriy Grymchak
Our Ukraine-People's Self-Defense faction member Yuriy Grymchak, in the center, before meeting with Prosecutor General of Ukraine in Kiev, on Thursday, February 10, 2011. Ukrainian Prosecutor General has promised to consider the possibility of releasing from custody a number of officials, against whom pre-trial investigations have already been completed. "We talked with the prosecutor general for about an hour. We spoke about the fate of our comrades who are currently in prison, and against whom pre-trial investigations have already been completed," Yuriy Grymchak told after meeting with Prosecutor General. "Today we did not demand that Prosecutor General take such a decision. We agreed that they would consider it with the head of the investigation department and the investigator. A little later, the decision will be announced to us," he said. He said that according to the Criminal Procedure Code, a person against whom a pre-trial investigation has been completed can be released from prison under a travel ban, and that a respective petition had been handed over to Prosecutor General. Grymchak said that the issue, in particular, concerns former First Deputy CEO of Naftogaz Ukrainy, former Head of the State Customs Service, former Interior Minister of Ukraine, former Environment Minister of Ukraine, and former First Deputy Justice Minister of Ukraine. He said that under the law, the Prosecutor General's Office has ten days to take a decision on this issue. He also expressed hope that over this period, the prosecutor's office would respond to a respective address by MPs. Photo by Aleksandr Kosarev / POOL / UNIAN
