Yuryi Luzhkov
Kerch-dwellers enthusiastically greet Moscow Mayor Yuryi Luzhkov after the meeting, dedicated to the signing of the trilateral memorandum on friendship and cooperation between Moscow, Crimea and Krasnodar territory on the entry to the not working railway ferry Port-Crimea - Port-Kuban (Kerch, the Crimea) during the visit of Yuryi Luzhkov in the Crimea on Saturday, April 28, 2001. On his right, Krasnodar territory Mayor Alexander Tkachev. After the meeting with the Crimean and Krasnodar territory authorities Yuryi Luzhykov supported Crimean government leader Sergey Kunitsyn’s suggestion on construction of new railway ferries plus restoring of the old one. He also confirmed the intention of Moscow government to take part in construction and exploitation of the ferry. Construction of bridge and tunnel through the Kerch belt Luzhkov considers for present economically insolvent (the supposed expenses make up more than $1 billion) as well as having hazy payout perspective.
