South Ukraine Nuclear Power Plant

The command-staff training of the Emergency Ministry, including representatives of chiefs of the Emergency Ministry, headed by the director of department on civil protection of the Emergency Ministry of Ukraine, started at the territory of the NPP this day. A delegation of the State Radiation Protection Agency of the Kingdom of Sweden is present at trainings.
Construction of NPP, consisting of three energy units with water-moderated water-cooled power reactor –1000, each of it has a capacity of 1000 megawatt, and satellite town of NPP Yuzhnoukrainsk, was started in spring 1975. The first energy unit was linked up to the energy system in December 1982. The second and third energy units were launched in 1985 and 1989. Over 10 years the NPP produced more than 100 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity. The capacity of NPP makes up 3000 megawatt. The Southern –Ukrainian NPP generates 17-18 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity over the year, which makes more than 10% out of electricity production in the state and near a fourth out of its production at Ukrainian nuclear power plants. The Southern –Ukrainian NPP covers by 96% the electricity necessities of the Mykolaiv, Kherson, Odesa Oblasts of Ukraine and Crimea AR.
