Monument to Odessa Founders (monument to Ekaterina II)

Monument to Odessa Founders (monument to Ekaterina II) during the «Ekaterina’s march» action on the occasion of the 280th anniversary of Empress Ekaterina II, in Odessa, on Tuesday, April 21, 2009. Near 50 participants of the action went from Cathedral square to the monument of Odessa Founders - under Russian tricolours, imperial flags and slogans about Slavic unity. According to the words of organizers, they intended to honor the memory of distinguished historical figure. During governing year of Empress the territory of empire was broadened, the judicial and administrative systems were reformed, external economic activity was in considerable development stage. Moreover, it was Ekaterina II who signed a decree on foundation of city and port at the place of former Turkish fortress Hadjibey, from which the history of Odessa started.
