COMM ARCHIVE UNIAN Leader of All-Ukrainian union “Open Politics”, former head of Ukrainian People’s-Democratic Party Anatoly Matvienko prepares to the start of bicycle race Kiev-Baturin-Chigirin-Trakhtemirov-Kiev devoted to the Independence Day of Ukraine in Kiev on Tuesday, August 3, 1999. On Tuesday, September 20, 2005 Matvienko asked President of Ukraine Viktor Yushchenko to accept his resignation from the post of Prime-Minister of the Crimea because of “Sobor” party did not intend to support the candidature of acting Prime-Minister of Ukraine Yuriy Yekhanurov for the post of Prime-Minister of Ukraine. Also he announced that he left the party “Sobor” and laid down the assumption of its head. In his address to President he noted that as he saw supporting of the candidature of Yuriy Yekhanurov was the treason to the national interests. That day Verkhovna Rada rejected the candidature of Yekhanurov for the post of Prime-Minister. Opposition fractions disregarded the voting and the candidature of Yekhanurov gained 223 ayes from necessary 226 ones. Photo by UNIAN
