FILE Pupils evacuated from Pripyat city playing volleyball in Hotyn city of the Kyiv Oblast, May 1986. People were evacuated and resettled from the polluted territories after the Chernobyl catastrophe. Residents from Obihody village were resettled to Novye Obihody village. Some time later residents began to return to alienation zone. Though 30 kilometers zone around of Chernobyl NPS is considered to be ineligible for life, some people live there and they are called “samosel” (people, who decided to live there by themselves). The Chernobyl catastrophe – is destruction of the 4th energy unit of the Chernobyl NPS on April 26, 1986. The destruction has an explosive character and the reactor was destroyed completely, and much radioactive materials were thrown out into atmosphere. This accident is considered to be as the biggest one during the whole history of nuclear energy both by supposed number of perished people and economic damage. Photo byPyasetsky Vasily/UNIAN
