ARCHIVE UNIAN Kazakhstan armed forces sappers prepare for elimination an ammunition kit left by Saddam Hussein army in the suburb of Al-Kut, province Wasit, the South Iraq, on Sunday, September 26, 2004. On the 9th of January, 2005, seven Ukrainian peacemakers perished and seven peacemakers were wounded because of an air bomb explosion near the town of As Suveyra in Iraq. From the direction of Kazakhstan one soldier was killed and 4 persons were wounded. One more Ukrainian peacemaker dead of wounds in Baghdad’s military hospital. The operation of ammunition neutralization was executed by the sappers of the special field detachment from the Republic of Kazakhstan and Ukrainian servicemen from the 72nd detached mechanized field engineer battalion that belong to the international coalition. Altogether 1473 servicemen of the international coalition perished during the war in Iraq including 17 Ukrainian soldiers. Photo by Viktor Pobedinsky / UNIAN
