Alexander Tkachenko, one of the leaders of the Peasant Party of Ukraine (PPU), the Speaker of the VR of Ukraine is examining the certificate of the candidate for the President of Ukraine, just after he had been registered by the CEC (Thursday, July 15, 1999). " I believe: if I don't win in the first round of the President Elections, in the second - I must be a winner", - declared Tkachenko in the interview to journalists. Among the 14 candidates he collected "most of all" signatures in support to him - 2,600,000. The CEC declared valid only 1,700,000 signatures, also the 'most of all'.
