Sergey Korolyov

FILE Photo (1996) of founder of practical astronautics, chief designer of the first carrier-rockets, artificial Earth satellites Sergey Korolev. From 1946 up to an end of his life Korolev was chief designer of the rocket space technical equipment. The first artificial Earth satellite in the world and the first space ship "Vostok", which accomplished the first flight to space manned by Gagarin, were created under his guidance. Academics Korolev received twice a title of Hero of Socialist labour (1956, 1961), Lenin's award (1957) and other awards.
